Large-scale manufacturing with precision and cost-effectiveness

Industries constantly face the challenge of streamlining production, ensuring high quality, and meeting consumers' demands for innovative products. Two central technologies that play a crucial role in this are injection molding and extrusion. These methods enable large-scale manufacturing of a variety of food products with precision and cost-effectiveness.

Injection molding and extrusion are often found in the pharmaceutical and food industries. AirSon's extensive experience in both injection molding, extrusion, and MEP services means that we can help you design and build an efficient and reliable production facility that meets your process needs.

What is extrusion and injection molding?

In both the food and pharmaceutical industries, precision, efficiency, and hygiene are crucial. Two of the most important techniques for shaping the products of the future are extrusion and injection molding. But what do they actually mean, and how are they used?

Extrusion – the continuous shaper

Extrusion is a process where ingredients or raw materials are pressed under high pressure and controlled temperature through a specially shaped opening (a so-called nozzle). The result is a long, continuous product that is then cut into desired lengths.

Injection molding – precision in solid forms

Unlike the continuous flow of extrusion, injection molding is about creating individual, precise three-dimensional objects. The material is melted and injected under extremely high pressure into a closed mold (a matrix), where it cools quickly and solidifies into its final form.

Extrusion and injection molding require energy-efficient design

In a large production hall with many injection molding machines, it is necessary to understand the total heat load and the convection flows that occur. If there is a balance between treated fresh air and the convection airflow, it is relatively easy to create a working area around the machine with a comfortable temperature and low particle levels.

The majority of the energy used by the injection molding machine is released as heat. With traditional mixed ventilation, this heat load must be balanced with an equally large amount of cooling. The energy requirement for such systems, which are very common in the extrusion and injection molding industry, has a significant impact on the company's financial results. This is a typical challenge that we help our customers address.
